North Warren Chamber Has New President
The North Warren Chamber of Commerce has a new president, beginning January 2010. Barbara Thomas, who relocated to the Adirondacks from Virginia, previously served on the Board of Directors of a chamber that serviced over 800 businesses, as well as was chair of the Membership and Ambassador committees there. She also twice received the award for Small Business Person of the Year and helped to set yearly plans for that chamber. Her new responsibilities include general oversight of the organization, membership goals, and direction of programs and committees.
Thomas is originally from Oswego, New York, is currently a Mary Kay Beauty consultant, and has been a member of the North Warren Chamber for three years.
Greg Beckler, outgoing president after eight years of service, will continue as proprietor of Stone Bridge & Caves Park, a local area attraction owned by his family for generations. Greg is also president of the Warren County Council of Chambers and was recently elected vice president of the National Caves Association. Under his direction, the Northwarren Chamber moved to a larger building, membership increased significantly and yearly events such as Summerfest and the Pug Parade & Halloween Party became area-wide weekend attractions.
Barbara Thomas plans to continue these events, as well as expand on his successes. ìWe have a great dynamic working for us in this area. Local residents as well as tourists enjoy taking part in the events we organize, and we are located in an area that has great natural resources for outdoor activities,î† Thomas said. This is a great place to live† and I enjoy working with the people here, she added.
In addition to the change in leadership at the helm of the organization, Thomas Johansen has assumed the role of Vice President of the Chamber for a term of one year. He also serves as president of the Horicon Historical Society. One new board member, Kim Olden, will serve for a period of three years beginning January 2010.
Continuing in their roles at the Chamber are Patti Stetson, Treasurer, and Trish Heckman, Board Secretary & Office Manager.
